Dr. George Basdanis

Dr. George Basdanis was born in Almyros Volos and acquired the specialty of Surgery in 1980 and was declared a doctor of the University of Athens. in 1985. Doctoral thesis topic: "Indirect mesenteric abdominal anastomosis with autograft of peritoneum and posterior petal of rectus abdominis muscle sheath - experimental study". From 1980 to 1985 he continued to work at the AHEPA Hospital as an assistant and in 1985 he was appointed Supervisor A of the NHS at the AHEPA Hospital to cover the needs of the Clinic's ICU. In 1989 he was appointed a lecturer of surgery at the Athens University of Applied Sciences, in 1993 Assistant Professor, in 2000 he was sworn in at the rank of Associate Professor and in 2007 Full Professor of Surgery at the Athens University of Applied Sciences.

 

 

     
     
 
 
He retrained in Great Britain, at St Mark's Hospital on surgical treatment, mainly of inflammatory diseases of the large intestine, and in 1996 in West Germany in laparoscopic operations of the large intestine and in the treatment of incontinence and transanal endoscopic microsurgery. Since then, he has had more than 50 short visits – course participations in many nursing institutions or centers in Europe or America, on topics mainly related to diseases of the colon and anus.
He has published or announced over 450 scientific papers in Greek and international journals. He has authored 4 books on colon and rectal topics and co-authored 8 other books. He was the Director of the 1st Pre-educational Surgery Clinic of the AHEPA Hospital during the period 2011-2015 and was the Head of the Colon Surgery Laboratory of the same clinic since 2001.
He is President of the Hellenic Colon and Rectal Society and President of the Professional Association of General Surgeons of Greece. It also organizes annual international advanced courses in laparoscopic and robotic general surgery but also in collaboration with other surgical specialties in cadaver tissues (International advanced course in laparoscopic and robotic surgery -hands on training in fresh frozen cadavers).
Today he deals with the whole range of heavy general surgery, and in particular with colon and rectal surgery for conditions such as colon cancer and inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, but also treatment of perineal fistulas, anal fissures and hemorrhoids. Also, with liver-biliary-pancreatic surgery and esophageal surgery, both open and laparoscopic.
